She’s a singer who lives for the spotlight—and can’t resist her adoring fans…
Outrageous and out-of-control, Lyric Jones is a spoiled pop star who lives hard and fast, always outrunning her past and the nightmares that haunt her. She’s used to getting what she wants—groupies included—because she can’t stand to be alone. So in bed, it’s the more the merrier, even if it means closing off the deepest part of herself…

He’s a hands-on bodyguard—and a one-woman man.
There is nothing Connor Malone wants to do less than babysit the celebratty songstress while she’s on vacation. But part of him relishes taming Lyric and showing her what it’s like to be possessed—body and soul—by one man. And though Lyric’s crazy antics nearly drive Connor to the edge, his quiet intensity penetrates her defenses, leaving them both vulnerable to the secrets that could topple Lyric from the stage.

♥My Thoughts♥

So, I'm pushing comfort limits by picking up this series, which is why I started with book 5. I like to read a series in order, but I'm easing myself into this one. Maya Banks is an author I'm starting to really love. She's got a lot of diverse series, and so far I've enjoyed all her novels.

Conner: Big, bad wolf or big bad sweetheart? This hero walks the line between the two. He's tough on Lyric at first, he doesn't take any sh*t and Lyric finds herself feeling out of her element with Conner. Out of control, and like a naughty little girl because he disapproves of her wild and fast lifestyle. But while Conner's buddies wives say he has a stick up his ass, we learn this isn't true. Conner isn't uptight, he's down to earth and protective and even a little sweet. He's also extremely focused when it comes to his work. And I like him all around because he's never afraid to lay it all out the line--the truth, how he's feeling, even his rage at people who treat Lyric like a thing to be used. Great hero material.

Lyric: I didn't think I was going to like her at first. She wasn't sassy as much as she was mean. But as we started to get to know Lyric, I started to realize she's ultra vulnerable and has created a hard shell around herself. It's how she protects herself. But she can't keep her heart safe from Conner. And she finds herself not really wanting to run from him--she does. She leans into him and retreats. She does run when she thinks she's been betrayed. But in her heart, she knows he would never hurt her.

I loved this novel without expecting to. It was beautifully written and yet the style was extraordinarily unique, jarring almost. But you fall into it easily as you would a pool of water, and the story carries you along in a fluid telling that just leaves you feeling that you have to read more of this series. I highly recommend this read. The only thing I found lacking was that the stalker story line was wrapped up too easily, but since it was not the main focus of the story, it didn't really impact the novel as a whole.

Favourite Quotes:

"You know just how to get to me...words are my life. How they flow. Their meaning. Twisting and turning them and making them more beautiful. Whenever you talk to me like this, I hear it like it's a song...You don't have to sing...No one has ever said such beautiful things to me."

"He wanted to wrap himself around her so tight that nothing or no one could ever get to her or hurt her. He wanted to be her refuge."

"The funny thing about dreams is that every now and then they come true."

4 glittering stars
