Dear Readers,

I'll confess to having read this a couple of weeks ago and then forgetting to write a review. Purely idotic of me. Anyway. It's yet another wonderful Brides of the Kindred novel, and once again, this fun and sexy series does not disappoint.

My Rating:

The Blurb

Nina is normal Florida girl with a job and a life and a grandmother she adores. But lately she’s been having disturbing dreams. Dreams of a man with a shadowed face—a man filled with pain and need and desire only she can slake. She fears him but at the same time, the dreams leave her breathless with need. Who is this dark stranger and what does he want of her?

Reddix is a Touch Kindred with an inverted Touch Sense—he can’t touch with his mind like others of his kind. Instead, he is doomed to endure their emotions like a physical invasion every time he’s around anyone. Desperation drives him to kidnap Nina—the girl he has been dreaming of. But he doesn’t take her out of love but as a sacrifice to one who claims she can cure his affliction.

Snatching Nina from her job, Reddix takes her on a journey to the stars that ends in disaster. Now, marooned on a strange planet they will have to learn to work together in order to survive. Can Nina forgive Reddix’s attack and gain his trust enough to heal him…or will his fate remain forever Shadowed?

♥My Thoughts♥

This was a good novel with a solid romance. I enjoyed the connection between Nina and Reddix, and I liked how sexy this book was without being overwrought by the sex. Though, when the bedroom antics started, they were really on fire!

Reddix is an interesting character in that his inability to touch others has really isolated him. His Reverse Touch Syndrome allows him to feel what others are experiencing emotionally on a physical level. It makes him completely unable to take a bride and bond her to him. Reddix's condition is so severe that he's desperate enough to seek out the help of a local swamp witch. Who naturally wants Nina--or more specifically her blood.

Book One of Brides of Kindred

Nina is a healer and can't help but feel for Reddix. She knows there is something about him that needs her. Even though he's her kidnapper and she shouldn't become close to him, Nina is forced into situations where exactly that happens--and some of the closeness is very, shall we say, intimate? Her rational mind comes to accept what her emotions are telling her, that Reddix isn't just her kidnapper, a man to be held in contempt, but someone in desperate need of help. Help only she could offer. It broke my heart that Reddix tried to push her away, because he was so lonely

But then the more sinister elements of the plot came into play. Why exactly, I wonder, did the swamp witch want to cure Reddix of his RTS? Is her son, this spawn of evil, really Reddix's half brother? And who is this spawn evil's father? In short, who are these evil father and son characters that only briefly mentioned near the end of the novel? And does the swamp witch and her evil consort (?) and son have sinister intentions towards Reddix and Nina? My inquiring mind would like to know.

This series has taken me by surprise from beginning to end. Erotic, funny, full of wonderful romances and characters that are alive and fraught with real life insecurities and issues, it has really been a pleasure to read. I'm looking forward to more of this series, and would recommend it if you simply need a break from reality.
