SHE GREW UP THINKING SHE WAS HUMAN
Born with the ability to command the wind, Nicole Bonham spends her life hiding her gift. Deciding to take control of her power, she dispenses her own brand of vigilante justice in Chicago’s worst neighborhoods. Stealth and surprise are always on her side.
UNTIL A CHANCE ENCOUNTER WITH A WARRIOR DEMON
Lash demon Gunnar prowls Earth and several supernatural realms to help maintain peace among the immortal species. His chance encounter with Nicole creates a hurricane of sparks between them, and he can’t let her out of his sight until he discovers her true identity. In his two hundred years, he has never seen a creature like her.
PLUNGES THEM BOTH INTO A FIGHT FOR HER LIFE
Nicole and Gunnar race to discover who - or what - is stabbing the city's most destitute residents and stealing their blood. The fire that forged their bond explodes into white-hot passion, weaving their souls together on an unexpected level. Haunted by the past, Gunnar's fiercely protective instincts battle with her need to defeat the creatures she was born to fight. As they track the mastermind behind the attacks, will Nicole’s unique talent unwittingly send her straight into his lair?
My Thoughts
So, as everyone knows, I love paranormal romance. Well, I just love romance. But I'm already digressing! Wicked Wind sounded like a fun read, and it had some great things happening. I enjoyed the characters, wondered about the world, and loved the ending.
Gunnar: Not exactly what you'd expect from a demon. For one thing, he is not evil, though some demons in this world are. He's also not as wildly alpha as you'd expect, or as dark. He's a regular guy who throws fire and gets possessive of his girl, and who just happens to be kick ass and great in the sac. I enjoyed how sweetly protective he was of Nicole, but I found him a lot more reasonable than your typical alpha male PNR hero, and that's always nice. He romances Nicole as much as he seduces her with his kisses and...other play *wink* Was he all "MINE"? Sure. But it's PNR, and if you don't have that...well, it just ain't right!! And now with the mate lock in place, I can imagine him all dark haired and bright eyed with that blond lock showing that he belongs to Nicole. I loved that idea and tip my hat to Ms. Kay for that bit of creativity.
Nicole: She and her sisters intrigue me if only because we know so little about them, their powers and how important they are to saving the world at this point. I'm curious to see where the series develops. That said, Nicole did some things that to me made no sense--unless it was her supernatural background that compelled her to do those things, like fight thugs on the street. However, I wasn't clear if her supernatural background played into that decision, or if she and her sister just didn't think that through. I wished they had had more motivation fueling that choice other than, we have powers. It just didn't seem like enough to me. But Nicole is kick ass, she isn't afraid to kick ass, and she isn't afraid to ask Gunnar to open himself up to her, or do whatever her destiny calls her to do. I totally liked that about her. No whining heroine here. Nicole deals, and faces her feelings and realities head on. And I loved how she faced Gunnar head on.
I do want to mention we have a few side stories we are introduced to in this first novel, but not in any great detail. I've already figured out that the next novel will feature Kai and Brooke, Nicole's sister, and that's great. But I had a harder time understanding why some other characters were introduced in as much detail as they were, and felt that took away from the plot a bit as I still have a lot of questions about the Solsti, Nicole and her sisters. But since the sex was hot, the romance was sweetly shown and palatable, I did enjoy the storyline. An engaging, fun read that shows great promise for the rest of the series. I would like to thank the author for providing me with a copy of the novel in exchange for an honest review.
